Connection and HTTPS

Before any content or assets can load, connections to the server need to be established. This can easily become a bottleneck for rich web application performance. There are many facets to the performance of the connection phase: looking up the domain name in a DNS server, establishing a TCP connection, performing a HTTPS handshake, and more.

This chapter provides guidance for each aspect of the connection phase.
